REDMOND, Wash. — September 30, 2026 — Microsoft has introduced a new Copilot experience designed to help individuals and organizations use artificial intelligence across everyday work, software development, automation and business workflows.
The new Copilot brings together three key capabilities: Home, Code and Autopilot, giving users different ways to interact with AI depending on the type of work they need to accomplish. Microsoft announced the new experience on September 25, 2026.
A New Home for Work
The new Home experience provides a central starting point for Copilot. Microsoft says Home brings Chat and Cowork together while helping users access recent activity, suggestions and ongoing work.
Users can use Chat for questions, research, summaries and drafting, while Cowork is designed for tasks that can be delegated to Copilot from start to finish.
Building Solutions With Copilot Code
Microsoft is also introducing Code, which allows users to describe applications, dashboards, trackers, automations and workflows using natural language.
According to Microsoft, Code is powered by technology related to GitHub Copilot and operates within a sandboxed environment. The capability is designed to make building purpose-specific solutions accessible beyond traditional software development teams.
Autopilot for Long-Running Work
Another major component is Autopilot, a persistent AI agent designed to work on tasks over longer periods.
Microsoft describes Autopilot as a digital teammate that can follow up on conversations, monitor channels, perform recurring work and continue projects without requiring a new prompt for every step. It operates within an organization’s environment with permissions, governance and audit controls.
Expanding AI Across Business Data
Microsoft is also expanding the business context available to Copilot through Microsoft IQ. The company says Copilot can increasingly work with organizational data and workflows from services such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power Platform and Fabric.
The goal is to provide AI systems with greater access to relevant business context while maintaining organizational governance and security controls.
